Joanna Socha et.al. conducted a study to test the hypothesis that for low-lying tumors, long-course chemoradiation is superior to Short-course Neoadjuvant Radiotherapy in reducing the risk of local failure. The researchers concluded that the results do not support the notion that long-course chemoradiation given prior to total mesorectal excision is superior to Short-course Neoadjuvant Radiotherapy in reducing the risk of local failure in low-lying tumors.
